I'm putting together a new feature here at StudioHendershot.com. It's called The Soundtrack of the Periodic Table of the Elements. Basically, it's exactly what it sounds like: each element, over a period of time, will get it's own little 'theme'. They will be selectable by their symbol on the periodic table.
I've had this idea spinning around in my head for some time, as I'm a big fan of theoretical physics, which is really neat stuff.
Since this project is brand new, there will only be one or two pieces at first. But the plan is to keep adding to the table, so that it's eventually filled in. In order to preserve bandwidth, since there's over a hundred elements in the periodic table, the pieces will be short - roughly one to three minutes in length.
I know. Many of you are probably thinking 'My god, what a nerd!' and, I guess you're right. In fact, one of the original titles for this project was 'NerdMusic' - since I will forever equate the periodic table with the science nerds I knew in high school. And yes, I will be researching each of the elements, looking for clues as to their 'spirit' and 'mood', so hard-core science nerds and lay-people alike will get to compare their image of an element to my musical representation and either revel in the profundity or scoff scientifically, whichever suits them. I mean, what the hell do I care? I'm not a scientist, I'm a composer, dammit!
